Fishing Notes

Today I got on the water about 10:30 and fished until 5:30. I set out to check secondary splitter points to check for pre and post spawn fish coming and going into and out of spawning pockets, but I started out fishing a main lake round house point with a sea wall just to see if the fish were on the sea wall and relating to current and up there eating on the first phase of the shad spawn, all of those were true, the fish were up their shallow on main lake points and I could see big shad on the big rocks flickering around getting ready to spawn. My graph was also lit up with lots of life on each main lake point as the strong current being generated by the dam were sucking the bait fish right down the lake with the bass in chase. My best bite today by far was on the main lake. Every main lake dock that I fished, cranking the spinner bait on the current side was 70% a bite, however the bigger ones were either behind those docks or holding just inside of the main lake points, shallow from the bank out to 15″ of water. While the spinner bait was the most productive bait today, I had several bites on the DD22 including a small keeper. The secondary points produced some small bites with the spinner bait and Carolina Rig, but no big ones. I also fished a drop shot rig and spoon over some of the main lake fish with no bites on those baits.
