Fishing Notes

Today was the last day that I will fish before the Big Bass Bash. I will not be fishing the bash as Anglers in Action ask me not to, not that I am a pro fisherman but if I were to luckily catch a big one that could be negative for many anglers, Big Bass Bash does a great job of making sure that the integrity of being an amateur tournament is protected. I am totally good with that as I will be on the radio providing updates and commentary. I truly hope that BassingBob members cash every check in the tournament. Today I started out fishing shallow as I have been catching good ones around shallow docks lately, but today things were different. I fished for 2 hours in the back of 3 creeks some with and some without a lot of bait fish and did not catch a single fish. Perhaps the water being drawn down a bit, perhaps the change in wind the past couple of days and perhaps just timing. So I started fishing deeper. I fished the crank bait on points with wind with no keepers, no bait fish, no bites. The then fished some main lake docks and wave breaks with the spook and had a couple of very big blow ups but no hook ups on big one but caught a few shorts. I did catch some shorts on the stick bake working it fast along main lake docks with wind. I then fished off shore in the Glaize, targeting main glaze banks with a lot of bait fish just dragging the shaky head worm and the Wiese jig with the Chompers Wild Hog trailer and caught 4 keepers, however the biggest was just over 3 pounds. I fished that pattern for about and hour, so I think you could run into a big one doing that. My boat was in 20-25′ of water casting to 10′-18′ of water. Bait fish is the key no matter where and how you fish. I also think on those same main lake flat banks with bait fish, that a top water bait, spinner bait or crank bait could work with wind blowing on the bank. The wind has been out of the south-southwest the past couple of days and will be out of the south for the bash. I would recommend fishing the coves, creeks, points that have that south wind blowing into them. Good Luck all. I will be at Fitz Fishing with coffee n donuts in the morning and hot dogs in the afternoon on Friday and at pb2 on Saturday and Sunday, stop by and say hey. Also feel free to text me if you have any questions about my suggestions for the area of the lake that you are fishing.
