Had a great time fishing the BassingBob Summer Sizzler with some of the best anglers on the lake. Did not do worth a hoot in tournament catching 9+ lbs each day. Went out Thursday prefishing catching some shallow fishing brush and docks and we tried some deep stuff but couldn’t get anything going. Friday we started shallow and had a 5 lb. real shallow and noticed that the bluegill were spawning in some areas so started running some backs looking and noticed we were getting bit if there were bluegill beds and also the very small fry running around, some also had the big gizzard shad as well. We had 2 nice ones early and just started shaking off bites but ended up hooking 2 more nice ones that would not let the baits go. I was switching between 1/2 and 3/4 oz jigs and my partner Rick stuck with the shaky head. Seemed like the shaky head would receive more bites than the jig. This pattern would not hold up in the tournament as we fished 5-6 hours with only a few small fish Saturday and went deeper last 2 hours and Rick caught a 4.10 on the shaky head in a 15 foot brush pile in front of docks. Water is very clear in the dam area, should have probably made a run but boat traffic was horrendous so stayed close fishing from 6 mm to the dam. |
