Fishing Notes

Bob Renken and I came into the tournament today after both spending a week away from LOZ at the Grand Lake FLW tournament. We knew that it would take us a bit of time to figure something out. So we started out fishing as we had been fishing before we left the lake, fishing the C-Rig around spawning areas. About 8:30 we noticed on our graph that fish were sitting under the boat well off the banks in 12″-15′ of water. So we moved off the bank and cast into the deeper water and started getting bites and some small keepers. We then moved to the back of a spawning creek that had lots of brush and bait fish, we worked a secondary point and caught back to back 3.5 pounder and 4.5 pounder dragging the C-Rig. We had a limit by 9:30. We kept fishing that pattern the rest of the day, catching close to 40 bass and 14 keepers. We culled a few times but mostly just upgrading ounces at a time. We needed one more solid 3+ to cash a check. We ended up 5th just .03 ounces from 4th and less than .5 pounds from 3rd with our 15.07 pounds. We did move up from 3rd place in overall standings to 2nd place, 4 points behind Mike Malone and Terry Blankenship. The winning bags were caught on jigs on main lake points, crank baits on main lake and secondary points and swim baits along the front of docks.
