(Winter Challenge Championship)
Some of the biggest bass are caught on Lake of the Ozarks in the winter. As an example, last year Bassing Bob caught one keeper per every two short fish, including far more 4, 5 and 6 pounders than any other time of the year. Many of the very large bass (ranging from 5 to 9 lbs) are caught in the winter!!There is nothing more warming in the cold winter than ripping the lips off a 7 pound large mouth bass! Winter bass fishing is an incredible time to be out on the water at Lake of the Ozarks.
First of all, there are virtually no big boats and their huge waves to deal with like other times of the year. There are no big boats blocking your favorite cove or ski boats flying past your bass boat. Secondly, bass fishing is a bit easier, considering there are generally only a few baits to consider, jigs, jerkbaits and occasional spinner/crank baits, plus, the search for fish is much easier and more predictable as they are generally grouped up on windy points and along creek channel banks. If you catch one in a location, you may likely catch more.
The lake is often very beautiful during the winter with many days of sunshine and mild temperatures. It’s an adventure that will get you hooked on catching big fish and enjoying Lake of the Ozarks during the winter months. Wear layers of clothes, thick socks, leather gloves, hats/ski mask and use toe warmers and hand warmers and you would be surprised at how comfortable you will feel on the water. Winter fishing is plain and simple the very best time of the year to catch hawgs!
